The Department of STATISTICS was established in the year 1984 to cater to the need of introducing courses which would offer options required to meet global challenges. The subject has wide applicability in various fields like agriculture, psychology, medical science, engineering, weather forecasting, mineral exploration, economics, remote sensing, actuarial science and so on The success of green revolution in sixties highlighted utility of Statistics. With the help of statistical tools and techniques our country has taken giant leap forward in food grains production in particular and agricultural production in general. This fact paved the way for including Statistics as one of the, main subject in university curriculum. The optional combinations of subjects with Statistics that are offered to the students are 1) Statistics, Mathematics & Physics, 2) Statistics, Mathematics & Computer Science and 3) Statistics, Physics & Computer Science. Department possesses adequate infrastructure, well equipped laboratories with 5 computers and 2 permanent teachers to meet the curriculum requirements. With 32 years of fruitful existence, the department has earned a place for itself. The students of the department have brought laurels to college by scoring distinctions and to crown it all, even have won gold medal. The department organises various co-curricular and extra-curricular activities for overall development of the students. These include industrial visits, guest lectures by eminent persons, statistical quiz ‘stativation’, problem solving competition ‘statability’, poster competition, career guidance by experts in different fields, projects involving application of Statistics in real life situations, seminars for students. The department organises state and national level conferences Apart from the regular teaching both the teachers are involved in research. The department also has Teaching Assistants, and other supporting administrative staff for organizing departmental activities. Our department students secure at least 2-3 ranks every year in the University examination from its inception. Many students have joined renowned research institutes and Universities for their higher studies
