The department was established in 1999. Taking into consideration the relevance of thoughts of Dr. Ambedkar in the context of progressive India, the department has been active for all these years. The course is offered for all the three years at undergraduate levels in Arts Faculty. The department conducted several programmes under the headship of Adv. Ramteke till 2014. Continuing with the same vigour Prof. Rahul Moon is holding many such activities.
The department conducts essay competitions, ex-tempore speeches, debate competitions,etc. towards fulfilment of extra-curricular programmes. Most of the programmes are planned on the themes of significance of The Constitution of India, Buddhism, philosophy of Dr. Ambedkar and social movements in the pre-independent and post-independent India.
Students are motivated to participate in all the activities that additionally helps them to improve on personality development. Resource persons are invited from academic as well social fields to deliver speeches on important topics. Sometimes representatives from NGOs are also called in to introduce students to various fields where students can prefer to work with a holistic approach.
