About

Department of Botany, Dr Ambedkar College was established in 1969. At present two general laboratories for regular practical (Total constructed area of department: 180.25 m2) and Bryophytic, Pteridophytic, Gymnospermic and Angiospermic specimen museum along with herbarium and seed bank of rare, endangered, & threatened plant species mainly. The Department has one Plant Tissue Culture Laboratory. The department has a core library with 502 books and 4 journals/ subscribed (Botanique, International Journal of Life Sciences, Multilogic in Science, Indian Journal of Plant Pathology) and magazine viz; Science Reporter, Biology Today, Dream 2047.

he Department stands today as a unique in the Nagpur region where multidisciplinary certificate courses, pilot projects and research in life sciences have been running consecutively. The uniqueness of the Department essentially lies in the fact that faculties are experts and active researchers representing almost all emerging treads of Plant Sciences in general. A continuing commitment to excellence and innovation has always been the central theme of this Department. The department is fully access with Internet facility and has a separate laboratory space for faculty research activities where two research projects are running. The department has a well maintain Botanical Garden housing many rare & threatened taxa, medicinal plants along with polyhouse, rose garden, Vidarbha fruit garden and Phytorid Unit for Phytoremediation of Chemical from Laboratories. As a separate activity, department is engage in small scale vermicomposting. Mission: To impart world class higher education, knowledge and research opportunities in the major thrust areas of Plant Sciences.
